1st Century Army?

Found this quote over at Anthony Castle’s blog:

“The Salvation Army (is) an attempt to reproduce the principles of 1st century Christianity in combination with modern methods for the evangelisation of the world and the general uplifting of those who have missed their way in life.”

Can we really say this about ourselves today? There are probably some places where this is true, but on the whole I’d say that we’ve fallen into the self same trap as the rest of the church. As we’ve become established the needs of the denomination have taken over from the needs of the people who we were sent to meet.
